Understanding an audience

Successfully communicating with the audiences Superact! aims to help can be a challenging task.

As well as the performer’s core discipline, they also need a firm understanding of the particular needs and abilities of any given audience if they are to communicate with them well. They quickly have to earn trust, recognise individual likes and needs, encourage participation, open doorways to allow a flow of understanding as well as making the event interesting in itself.

It can be the difference between giving what might be a pleasant enough afternoon’s entertainment and providing the foundation of a structured programme of benefit that can be carried on by others after they have left.

For this reason, Superact! often offers courses and workshops to help artists and carers understand their events from the perspective of an audience, what is regarded as good practice across that community and a sharing of what others have found to work well and what has been less well received.
