Project Aim

After running a pilot in Exeter for this community arts initiative, we have been successful in securing some funding to develop Exe-Arts into a larger programme. We have received offers of funding from Children in Need and from Exeter Council Arts Events programme towards the new initiative.

Exe-Arts is a two-phase initiative aimed at developing community relations and creative activity in the St. David’s community. It will be run out of the Exeter Community Centre where Superact is based, and is designed to increase use of the newly refurbished centre as well as bring together community residents to explore creativity.

Exe-Arts consists of two projects which will come together for a final celebration event at the end of the year. One project, funded by Children in Need, will be the design and delivery of bespoke arts programmes for local youth agencies such as the Youth Offending Team, The YMCA, and Ester Community Hostel. The second project is a programme of creative workshop sessions open to the whole community over four months.

There will be a final event at which performances and exhibitions of work will be on display. St. David’s is a diverse community and it is hoped that this initiative will bring people together to share ideas and experiences. We intend that the initiative will also create some public art in the St. David’s neighbourhood which we can all be proud of.
