Sea Changes – songs and stories of the Sea, a series of six workshops, has brought a tidal wave of people from across East Lothian. Our stunning coastline, combined with a rich cultural history of herring industry, fishwives, tales and songs of love, loss, work and play, meant that this topic was going to be a big hit in the area. Brum Together Brum Go From Strength to Strength.         One of Superact’s first Our Big Gig EXTRA projects continues to flourish in Birmingham.  Drum Together Brum are a community drumming group set up in October 2013.  Since then the group has grown in size and they now have 15 or more regular drummers meeting every Wednesday to rehearse.  The group are now funded through the weekly £5 subs each member pays, plus the fees for some of their bigger gigs.   Anna Bright, one of the original members says, “It is so great to have that many people tur...

We're pleased to announce that we can now offer £200 to those wishing to take part in Our Big Gig this July, and it's not too late to get involved! To get your hands on this £200 you just need to set up a project with the crowdfunding platform Spacehive. More information on how to get involved can be found on our 2015 and Spacehive pages. We have extended the deadline for people to register with Spacehive for Our Big Gig to the 31st May 2015.   This year in order to access funding from Our Big Gig you need to set up a project with Spacehive and crowdfund towards your event. You can add support in kind and existing funds to the campaign and Superact will pledge £100 towards your costs. The Government have issued new Entertainment Licensing regulations which come into force from the 6th April 2015. This is important for those taking part in Our Big Gig this year as hopefully it should make thing slightly easier for organisers! Whether a licence is needed for music entertainment will depend on the circumstances. A licence is not required to stage a performance of live music, or the playing of recorded music if: it takes place between 8AM and 11PM; and it takes place at an alcohol on-licensed premises; and the audience is no more than 500 people You also don’t need a ...

Our Big Gig, England’s largest community music festival is to return in 2015 from 10th to 12th July. The major change for 2015 is that all events requiring funding will be supported to crowdfund for their events on Spacehive.com, with match-funding available from the Department for Communities and Local Government.  Since 2013, over 380,000 people have attended 520 Our Big Gig events which have seen a wide variety of musical activities take place in a range of unusual spaces. The day has finally come – the launch of Our Big Gig is here! Our Big Gig is the new name for the project formerly known as the Bandstand Marathon – we are looking for people to get on board as Community Event Organisers and run events in their local communities.
