Exe-Arts Plus gets off to a cracking start!

Well Exe-Arts PLUS has started off with a bang: we held the first session of the Beginner Pottery course with more people turning up than had booked! All seemed keen to get stuck into some clay.

We talked about the nature of clay, what exactly it is and how it behaves. We then moved on to two of the basic methods of hand construction, pinch pots and coiling. Everyone was able to finish the basic shapes of two pots with some very satisfying results. Decorating pots to follow at the next session which will be about slab building and colouring pottery with slips. Glazing comes later.

It was a lovely relaxed evening all round with refreshments and chatter while everyone worked hard on their creations. Looking forward to the next session.

Remember: Family pottery is this Saturday at the Exeter Community Centre, 10am-1pm, and Photography Taster sessions at St. Sidwell’s Community Centre on Tuesdays the 11th & 18th, 6-8.30pm (no camera necessary but bring along a phone camera if you want to).
