Bridgwater Bandstand Festival

As the autumn leaves fall and the winter nights draw quickly in, it gets harder and harder to think of those long hot summer sundays. But let me try… Sun…music in the air… the smell of freshly cut grass… Are you at Blake Gardens, Bridgwater Music Festival yet?

For the tenth year running, throughout the months of July and August, Superact hosted seven different brass bands including Chard Concert Brass, Taunton Convert Band, Wells City Band, Weston Brass, Burnham and Highbridge Band, Stoke Sub Hamdon Band and a2 Horn Duo at Bridgwater’s Blake Gardens. Every Sunday saw the gardens come alive with music for all to enjoy. And enjoy they did! From local care home residents swaying to familiar tunes, to young children dancing together and families picnicking on the grass. For eight glorious weeks the weather played its happy part too and treated musicians and audience alike with rain-free summer sunshine!

For over ten years, Superact has run events of similar nature across the UK and in the South West in particular. Most notably, in 2012 we delivered the Bandstand Marathon, a nationwide event comprising 224 free open-air music concerts taking place simultaneously in all regions and nations of the UK on Sunday 9 September 2012 as one of the largest closing events of the London 2012 Festival. The events were inclusive and open to all, giving people from Inverness to Penzance, from Strabane to Wisbech, from South Shields to Southampton, the chance to be part of London 2012.

Looking to next year we hope to continue our bandstand projects by organising more local music festivals around the South West. If you know of any local bandstands that you would like to see used more or if you’re part of a band that would like to have the opportunity to perform, please contact
