Linked to the Cultural Olympiad - the four year festival celebrating the arts and traditions of the host nation leading up to the 2012 Games, Superact!’s Bandstand Marathon is a wonderful celebration of the UK’s strong music heritage within local communities.
The event consists of a simultaneous series of concerts (over 120 in 2009) on bandstands and in open spaces across the UK. Most of the concerts revolve around traditional bands but there have also been a good number of other genres represented covering a broad range of tastes.
It’s music by the people, for the people. Last years event was the most widespread Cultural Olympiad event and saw well over 1,000 musicians bringing live music to the public at large.
If you’d like to take part with a concert on your local bandstand, please use the link opposite.
2010’s event takes place on 26th September starting at 2pm.
